Banapis 2014

Every year we get a year older.

Between Amy and I we have a total of 11 children, currently ranging in age from 8 to 28. Rio's & Jake's birthdays are in May, Chani's in April. Lessa gets January. Everyone one else is between July 31 and September 12.

We learned early that trying to have a birthday party for every kid every year was a recipe for bankruptcy.

So we took a page from Raymond E Fiest's book Magician. In Ray's novel, midsummer's day is the annual celebration of "Banapis." On Banapis everyone officially adds one year to their age, twelve- year-olds are chosen to apprentice to the various trades, and so on. If you want more details, read Ray's book.

This year we celebrated our 9th Banapis as a family and the third at Emeralde Gardens. Our Banapis celebraton, also known as the Wimmer Family Birthday Bash is held on the first double digit saturday in August.

Rather than try to describe the festivities, I will add several thousand words via pictures.
